The South West Cyber Resilience Centre is delighted to welcome Assistant Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police, Mark Cooper to their Board of Founding Partners.
Mark joined Wiltshire Police in 2019 as the ACC for Crime and Justice. He had moved from Dorset Police where he was Detective Chief Superintendent and had previously completed a secondment in Wiltshire as an acting ACC in January 2016.
Throughout his career, Mark has worked at all ranks as a detective, leading investigations in areas including major crime and serious organised crime.
In 2011, Mark was awarded a master’s degree in criminology from Cambridge University following his research into ‘The World of Organised Crime’.
He is currently the South West strategic lead for Commodities (County Lines and Drug Supply) and has recently taken over strategic cybercrime and digital investigation and intelligence portfolio.
On joining the board Mark said: “Having recently taken up the portfolio for cybercrime across the South West region, I am delighted to join the Board and Directors of the South West Cyber Resilience Centre.
“This venture is an exciting innovation for policing, as we seek to collaborate more closely with the private sector in our fight against cybercrime. As we all know, cybercrime is an increasing threat, and the CRC’s free level of support is an important part of the landscape.
"Their ability to provide services directly to small businesses and supply chains is a crucial development, and will support us in safeguarding the prosperity of our regional economy.
“I look forward to working with partners at the Management Board table to pool expertise and ideas, and to make a real difference to businesses and the third sector locally.”
In response to Mark’s appointment to the Board, SWCRC Director Mark Moore commented: “I am delighted to welcome the regional cyber policing lead to our Board. Mark’s oversight of policing cybercrime throughout the South West will be invaluable in helping us stay abreast of emerging threats to businesses and charities in the region, and enabling us to brief our members accordingly. The alignment of public and private sector expertise is a central part of the CRC model and I anticipate it bringing tangible security benefits to supply chains in our area. ”
The SWCRC is an innovative not for profit partnership between policing, academia, and private industry, committed to helping protect businesses in the South West region from cybercrime. It joins a growing network of regional centres being established as part of a national roll out to provide businesses of all sizes with access to affordable cyber security services, the latest advice and support from leading law enforcement and industry experts and help them take simple steps to protect their business from unscrupulous cyber criminals.
